2019 Pacifica Hybrid minivan is best value and drive experience for young families
Since introduction, the Chrysler Pacifica has been the most awarded minivan in the US – both gasoline and hybrid powered versions. Though sales of minivans have slipped in recent years due to more competition from SUV’s and crew cab pickups, there are times – particularly young family times – when only a minivan will do. Pacifica gives them choices and savings too.
Recognition and awards for Pacifica have continued this Spring where, in Texas (the truck and SUV capitol of the nation), the Texas Auto Writers Association named the 2019 Pacifica as the ‘Family Vehicle of Texas’ at their annual Auto Roundup.
Chrysler brought two to the event, a gasoline Pacifica Limited and the hybrid Pacifica Limited for journalists to test. We have personally tested both the gasoline and hybrid versions of Pacifica several times in the last two years and – hands down – we prefer the hybrid to the gasoline model, but would our fellow journalists?

Hybrid with S Appearance Package
The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is now available with the S Appearance Package giving it an edgy look that features Gloss Black accents inside and out, 18-inch wheels with “Black Noise” finish, an all-black interior, black seats accented with Light Diesel Gray accents and the “S” logo. Going for the win at the Roundup, Chrysler brought the Pacifica Limited Hybrid with the sporty S Package.
In fact, it was the same deep Jazz Blue Pearl Coat Limited S that Chrysler had loaned us a week or two earlier to update our road tests – so we were well familiar with it.

Not needing to drive it again, we hung around the staging area, eavesdropping on fellow journalists as they drove both the gasoline and hybrid versions. Their comments confirmed our assessment. The Pacifica Hybrid Limited ran quieter and smoother, accelerated faster, responded quicker at speed and drove more planted on the road when compared to the gasoline version.
As the segment’s first minivan available as Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the Pacifica Hybrid Limited features nearly the same impressive array of features and amenities as its Limited gasoline sibling.

Powertrain
The powertrain is anchored by a 3.6L Atkinson Cycle V6 Hybrid front-wheel drive engine mated to an innovative dual-motor eFlite Electrically Variable Transmission (EVT) featuring two electric motors – one for charging and one for drivetrain power. When needed, the charging motor can also supply additional drivetrain power to supplement the gasoline engine.
It has 32 miles of all-electric range with a total hybrid range over 500 miles.
The 16-kWh lithium ion battery is located under the second-row seating. Featuring an on-board Battery Charger with 110-volt power cord, it is easy to charge overnight on garage power.
The Pacifica hybrid has four-wheel regenerative disc braking with Anti-lock, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control; independent McPherson Strut suspension front with independent twist-blade with coil springs rear, electric rack and pinion steering and runs on235/60R18 Michelin Premier A/S tires.

Hybrid vs Gasoline – Which One?
Our 2019 Pacifica Hybrid Limited S, at $50,375, had all of the bells and whistles as the gasoline powered Limited S with the exception of the Stow ‘n Go second row seats and Stow ‘n Vac integrated vacuum which are not available on the Hybrid.
Choosing the Hybrid should be a ‘no brainer’ based on price alone. Factoring for the available $7,500 Federal Tax Credit, this hybrid’s delivered price would be $42,875 – a full $6,850 less than the delivered price of the gasoline powered Pacific Limited S.

When considering the better drive and ride experience of the Hybrid – a young family would get all they need in a family vehicle – for less – plus pocket hybrid fuel economy savings as well.
